Grand National Grey Horses 2011

A grey horse has not won the Grand National for 50 years and only 2 grey horses have ever won the Grand National. Despite his name the 2007 Grand National Winner Silver Birch was not a grey. The last grey horse to prevail in the Grand National was Nicolaus Silver, in 1961. 50 years ago exactly! Is the script there to be written for Silver By Nature?

The Grand National is the race when everyone in the country has a bet, those who like racing will study the form and whether the horse is a grey horse or not is not at all important. A grey horse though is very popular with those who bet with their eyes. Grey horses look majestic, they are unusual and let’s be fair they are very pretty to look at. You can certainly spot them in the field easily!

Tell any regular punter you are backing Silver By Nature today and they will tell you that it is not a bad bet. If they ask you why and you say because it is a grey horse then you may get a rather short reply!

Today though there is a very good grey horse lining up in the Grand National, Silver By Nature. Whether you are backing it because it is a good horse or it it is a grey horse, at 14/1 you have a very good chance of winning the Grand National with this grey horse!

Not only is Silver By Nature a grey but also trained by a lady trainer, Lucinda Russell. Character Building is also a grey horse who runs in the Grand National 2011 but he is a much bigger price than Silver By Nature who is one of today’s favourites for the Grand National. Silver By Nature will be very popular with punters, no doubt.

You will see on BBC 1 today, before the Grand National a fabulous profile of Silver By Nature and a history of Grey Horses in the Grand National. Clare Balding  travelled to the Lucinda Russell stable to see Silver by Nature in his preparations. Silver By Nature is trained in Scotland.

Lucinda Russell is the partner of former Grand National winning jockey Peter Scudamore, so has a first had insight into the qualities her grey horse will need to prevail over the Aintree fences.  It has been said that Silver By Nature, a nine-year- old grey gelding stays longer than the Mother-in-law, by that I mean it will see out the four miles. Stamina is not an issue. If you are backing Silver by Nature today then take an early price, it will no doubt be well supported and go off shorter than the morning prices. Ladbrokes are offering 14/1 about the grey horse Silver By Nature.

Grey horses are always popular with the punters. Usually backing a grey is money gifted to the bookmakers but in Silver By Nature backers have a serious grey horse that could win the 2011 Grand National. If you are a grey horse backer, good luck!

It is also of note that Silver by Nature is trained in Scotland and there has only ever been one Scottish trained winner of the Grand National, that was in 1979. The omens must be good for the Scottish Grey! A Grey, trained by a lady trainer in Scotland!
