These colours won the Grand National in 2005 with Hedgehunter. Trained by Donald McCain he is the son of the legendary trainer Ginger McCain who has won four Grand Nationals, including three with the legendary Red Rum.

He has been campaigned over hurdles this season to protect his handicap mark for this race. He won the Kim Muir Chase at Cheltenham last year and looks a chaser with a big future. He won that race at Cheltenham under top weight, he certainly has the ability and looks to have stamina that indicates he will stay the trip. He ran at Kelso over fences when the weights were released for the Grand National and finished second,

Ginger McCain believes that his son, who is an excellent trainer, has a very good Grand National horse on his hands, and let’s face it he will know better than anyone what it takes to win a Grand National. He will be fine tuned for the National but he may be up against it.

Remember he is carrying 11 stone and his trainer has targeted this race for him, so if you have backed this horse or drawn it in the sweepstake then you have connections that are more associated with the Grand National than any other stable.

Ballabriggs will be ridden by Jason McGuire who has really progressed as a jockey in the last couple of years and rode a great race for the stable on Peddler’s Cross in the Champion Hurdle. He will give Ballabriggs a good ride and as stable jockey to the McCain team he knows the horse well.

Could Ballabriggs win the Grand National? Leading player.
