Jockey Sam Waley-Cohen looking to be the first amateur to win the race since Marcus Armytage on Mr Frisk in 1990 and the first jockey to do the Gold Cup/National double since Jim Culloty back in 2002. Lost nothing in defeat behind The Midnight Club last time and finished runner up in the Irish National last year; major player.

Jockey – Sam Waley-Cohen, Trainer – Martin Lynch, Other – number 18, Irish trained, Orange Silks.

Bet on Oscar Time with Ladbrokes 14/1

This would be a fairytale win for the amateur jockey, and owner’s son Sam Waley-Cohen who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup just a few weeks ago aboard Long Run. Amateurs have won the Grand National of course, Marcus Armatage won on Mister Frisk most recently, but to win the Gold Cup and Grand National is unheard of.

The horse is yet another Irish trained runner, though the owner and jockey are very much British, so this is an Anglo-Irish contender. Oscar Time has a very good chance of winning the Grand National too. He has good form in Irish Handicaps and is another that could be on a good weight in the race.

Oscar Time runs in Orange Colours. Very eye-catching. He is sure to have the stamina for the trip and seems to jump well. Many questioned the ability of the jockey at Cheltenham but he showed skill and maturity to partner Long Run to a famous victory. He looked fit and every bit as good as the professionals. I would not worry about the jockey! There are plenty of professionals riding in this race who have not got a Gold Cup to their name. Will Oscar Time add the Grand National to that Gold Cup?

Very strong claims. Leading Fancy.
